I rounded off my week with volunteering some time to run a world-building workshop at one of my libraries. It was the latest part of a collaboration we”ve been running with the British Library on fantasy and science fiction.
We used handfuls of m&ms and drew round them to make islands and then used my World Engine sets to create some locations on them and a story that could either link or use those locations. By the end of it each person had an idea of a history and setting and a story seed to build out from.

What was fun was the process of building out the locations and getting people to create a richer set of locations as we added each new set of details. The m&ms were quietly munched as brain food, and we had a lot of laughter along the way.
A lovely moment came at the end where the mum of one of the people there started taking photos of the various books and card sets as their child was really taken by them.
It was only an hour and a half, and we could have easily carried on for longer. In fact boy s, who came along to keep me company, has been really excited by the world he’s now building, and I can’t wait to see how it evolves.
